Darby Township School to Host Juneteenth Jubilee June 4

 

Darby Township School will host its annual Juneteenth Jubilee on Tuesday, June 4. 

 

The event will begin with a keynote by Sereena Quick, the first black woman to own a Chick-fil-A franchise in the Philadelphia region. Quick’s address is titled “My Ancestor’s Wildest Dreams: History in the Making,” and will begin at 9:15 a.m. in the DTS gym.

Academy Park High School Junior Earns Spot in Prestigious National Youth Leadership Summit


Keyarra Barley, a junior at Academy Park High School, has been selected to participate in the prestigious 2024 Young Leaders Summit (YLS). 

The summit, organized by the Youth Leadership Consortium (YLC), is a highly selective program that recognizes high school juniors from across the United States for their leadership potential and academic excellence.

Southeast Delco’s Colleen DiMaggio Receives 2024 Community First Award

Colleen DiMaggio Community First AwardColleen DiMaggio, a dedicated educator specializing in gifted student support at the Southeast Delco School District, has been named a recipient of the 2024 Darby Township Community First Award.

DiMaggio is one of five individuals honored with this award for their outstanding community service and dedication.

"It's truly an honor to be recognized for doing work that means so much to me,” said DiMaggio. “Educating our gifted students enriches lives and fosters new ideas within our community. This award emphasizes the importance of our efforts and motivates me to continue innovating and striving for excellence in education."

The award is presented annually to individuals who embody a spirit of community service and dedication to enhancing Darby Township. DiMaggio's commitment to students and active involvement in community initiatives exemplify the spirit of the award. Her innovative approaches in gifted education and efforts to create inclusive classroom environments have significantly enriched the educational landscape and community.

With over two decades of educational experience, DiMaggio instructs in the Gifted Support program at Southeast Delco, an integral part of the district's commitment to providing exceptional educational opportunities. Gifted enrichment programs, offered on a rotating basis at each school, provide intellectually stimulating activities that complement students' academic curriculum.

“Ms. DiMaggio's recognition as a Community First Award recipient is a testament to her passion and dedication, which resonate beyond the classroom,” said Dr. Yamil Sanchez Rivera, Superintendent of the Southeast Delco School District. “She has not only inspired her students, but also set a standard for service and excellence in our community."

 


 

Sharon Hill School’s Katie McDermott Receives Excellence in Teaching Award


katie mcdermottThe Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union Foundation has awarded Sharon Hill School first-grade teacher Katie McDermott with the 2024 Excellence in Teaching Award.

 

McDermott was recognized for her outstanding contribution to education, alongside other notable educators from Delaware County, Chester County, Delaware, and Philadelphia. She received the award at FMFCU’s annual celebration on April 25 at The Drexelbrook in Drexel Hill.

“We are incredibly proud of Ms. McDermott for all the amazing work that has led to her being recognized with this prestigious award,” said Dr. Yamil Sanchez Rivera, Superintendent of the Southeast Delco School District. “She embodies the dedication and passion that are hallmarks of a truly impactful teacher. Ms. McDermott’s commitment to her students and their learning is evident in all she does. This honor is truly deserved.”
