Academy Park High School Junior Earns Spot in Prestigious National Youth Leadership Summit
FOLCROFT, PA — Keyarra Barley, a junior at Academy Park High School, has been selected to participate in the prestigious 2024 Young Leaders Summit (YLS).
The summit, organized by the Youth Leadership Consortium (YLC), is a highly selective program that recognizes high school juniors from across the United States for their leadership potential and academic excellence.
Barley is one of only 220 students chosen from a competitive pool spanning 42 states and several U.S. territories. Her exceptional academic record, active involvement in extracurricular activities, and strong leadership qualities have distinguished her among her peers nationwide.
“Keyarra’s selection for the Young Leaders Summit is a testament to her hard work and the high standards she sets for herself,” said Dr. Yamil Sanchez, Superintendent of the Southeast Delco School District. “We are incredibly proud of Keyarra and know that she will represent Academy Park High School with distinction as she takes part in this incredible experience. Her selection is a big point of pride for our entire community.”
The YLS offers a comprehensive, free program aimed at empowering young leaders. It provides practical tools to help them apply to top universities, access scholarships and financial aid, and set a pathway for both academic and future career success. The program includes both virtual and in-person components, with the latter being held at the University of Southern California from July 31 to August 4, 2024.
The summit will kick off with a virtual orientation on May 22, followed by two days of intensive online workshops in early June. These sessions are designed to enhance leadership skills, expand professional networks, and include interactions with college students and professionals who will serve as mentors.
The YLC is a collaborative effort involving several organizations committed to educational advancement, including the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, the American Indian College Fund, APIA Scholars, and others. Together, they work to ensure that the diverse backgrounds and ethnicities of students nationwide are well represented and supported through higher education.
