Colleen DiMaggio, a dedicated educator specializing in gifted student support at the Southeast Delco School District, has been named a recipient of the 2024 Darby Township Community First Award.
DiMaggio is one of five individuals honored with this award for their outstanding community service and dedication.
"It's truly an honor to be recognized for doing work that means so much to me,” said DiMaggio. “Educating our gifted students enriches lives and fosters new ideas within our community. This award emphasizes the importance of our efforts and motivates me to continue innovating and striving for excellence in education."
The award is presented annually to individuals who embody a spirit of community service and dedication to enhancing Darby Township. DiMaggio's commitment to students and active involvement in community initiatives exemplify the spirit of the award. Her innovative approaches in gifted education and efforts to create inclusive classroom environments have significantly enriched the educational landscape and community.
With over two decades of educational experience, DiMaggio instructs in the Gifted Support program at Southeast Delco, an integral part of the district's commitment to providing exceptional educational opportunities. Gifted enrichment programs, offered on a rotating basis at each school, provide intellectually stimulating activities that complement students' academic curriculum.
“Ms. DiMaggio's recognition as a Community First Award recipient is a testament to her passion and dedication, which resonate beyond the classroom,” said Dr. Yamil Sanchez Rivera, Superintendent of the Southeast Delco School District. “She has not only inspired her students, but also set a standard for service and excellence in our community."
