The Southeast Delco School District has received a $186,102 grant from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD) to address school safety and mental health.

The School Safety and Security Grants Program, established in 2018, provides funding for ongoing support of safety and security measures in schools. The goal is to create safer schools for students, staff, and visitors.

The funding will be used for a number of initiatives across multiple schools:

  • The district will use $20,521 to install an Opengate Weapon Detection System at Knight Field, allowing for screening of attendees at sports games and other events.

  • A portion of the funds will be used to create Sensory Rooms in both Darby Township School and Delcroft School to support students with autism.

  • $71,507.60 will be used to improve self-contained autistic support classrooms by purchasing sensory boxes, sensory seating options, and calming corners.

  • The district will use the remaining $26,350.40 to purchase social-emotional learning curricula for its autistic and emotional support programs.

“The programs and initiatives funding through this School Safety and Security Grant will have a tremendous impact on our students, staff, and community in the Southeast Delco School District,” said Superintendent Dr. Yamil Sanchez Rivera. “We are grateful to be recipients of grant funding this year, as these resources will allow us to enhance safety measures, expand mental health support, and create more inclusive learning environments for our students. This investment will help our students and staff come to school every day feeling safe, secure, and ready to learn.”
